Military Medal 'Private CLARKE acted as a Stretcher Bearer during the attack on MT. ST. QUENTIN near PERONNE on 1st September, 1918, where he made himself a conspicuous figure by reason of his courage, cheerfulness and devotion to duty. With utter disregard to danger he attended to the wounded for 20 hours, risking his life again and again in the execution of his duty. he was undoubtedly instrumental in saving many lives, and he did not cease work as long as a casualty required attention. At DOMPIERRE on August 28th this man acquitted with admirable courage. After his Company had been forced to withdraw from the Sugar Mill, he went out in the face of a fierce machine gun fire, and helped to bring in the wounded, who had been unable to come back. Throughout the recent operations CLARKE'S work has been of the highest order.'
