Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 27 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 3 April 1916.

Admitted to 26th General Hospital, Calais, 23 May 1916 (infected tonsils & gout); transferred to England, 2 June 1916, and admitted to 4th Northern General Hospital. Transferred to Woodcote Park Convalescent Hospital, Epsom, 10 August 1916; to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 14 August 1916; date of discharge from hospital not recorded.

Commenced return to Australia on board HS 'Kanowna', 9 September 1916; discharged, 2 April 1917 (medically unfit: rheumatism and nephritis).
