'At WESTHOEK RIDGE 20th September 1917. He displayed great dash and courage in mopping up several enemy strong posts. In one case he rushed a machine gun firing to one flank and succeeded in killing six of the crew and took the other members of the post prisoners. Later he did excellent work in reorganising and consolidating the new position.'
