Admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance, 24 July 1916, and transferred to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station (shell shock); to No 16 Ambulance Train, 25 July 1916; to No 8 General Hospital, Rouen, 26 July 1916. Embarked Havre on HS 'Gloucester Castle' and proceeded to England, 26 July 1916; admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, 27 July 1916; marched into No 1 Command Depot, 21 September 1916; granted furlough from Command Depot, 22 September 1916.

Found guilty, 12 October 1917, of being absent without leave, 6 October, to 3.30 pm, 7 October 1917: awarded 1 day's confinement to quarters; forfeited total of 2 days' pay.

Proceeded to France from Training Bn, 11 November 1916; marched into 1st Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 13 November 1916; marched out, 24 November 1916; rejoined 1st Bn, 26 November 1916.
