Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in reconnoitring hostile dug outs after our attack. He completed the difficult task of making entrances to cellars under an intense bombardment, working for 36 hours under the most trying conditions. He has also exhibited great coolness when laying charges in close proximity to the enemy at imminent risk of being blown up himself.'c
