Wounded in action, 7 June 1916 (bomb wound, lacerated wounds, head and face; compound fracture of jaw; wounds to both legs and chest), and admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 10 June 1916, and then by Ambulance Train to 13th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 10 June 1916; to England, 13 June 1916, and admitted same day to Reading War Hospital; transferred to No 2 Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 18 October 1916; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 1 November 1916.

Marched into Pioneer Training Bn, Larkhill, 11 March 1917.
