War service: Western Front Embarked Fremantle, 12 February 1916; disembarked Suez, 11 March 1916; taken on strength, 16th Bn, Serapeum, 2 April 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 1 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 9 June 1916. Found guilty, 24 June 1916, of (1) being absent from 9030 parade on 20 June; (2) being absent from 1330 parade on 22 June; (3) being absent from Tattoo roll call on 23 June 1916: awarded forfeiture of 5 days' pay. Found guilty, 31 July 1916, of being absent from billet during parade hours on 29 July, and while on Active Service, drunkenness, 29 July 1916: awarded forfeiture of 28 days' pay. Wounded in action, 5 October 1916 (gun shot wound, both legs; compound fracture), and admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance. Died of wounds, 5 October 1916.
