Wounded in action, 4 August 1917 (gun shot wound, left wrist), and admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to Casualty Clearing Station; to 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 5 August 1917; to England, 8 August 1917, and admitted to Edmonton Military Hospital, 9 August 1917; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 22 August 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 August 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HMAT 'Suevic', 27 September 1917; discharged (medically unfit: otitis media and deafness), Perth, 1 December 1917.
