'During the preparations along the MENIN ROAD, near YPRES for the offensive operations on 20th September, he was engaged conducting convoys for material towards the frong line as far as the roads whoudl permit, through heavy shell fire. On the morning of the 17th he conducted the first party of wagons on the new road towards CHATEAU WOOD through very heavy shell fire, showing gallant conduct and wise judgment. He set an admirable example to all ranks.'
