'This non-commissioned officer during the attack on Penin, on the night of 20-21 September, 1918, with five other ranks was sent to reconnoitre Kefr Aban. Finding this place occupied, he rushed the position, and the enemy, numbering some 200, immediately surrendered. His marked gallantry and initiative were largely responsible for the complete success which followed.'
