Allotted to 59th Bn from 2nd Training Bn, Zeitoun, 26 February 1916; taken on strength of 59th Bn, Ttel-el-Kebir, 24 February 1916. Transferred to 58th Bn and taken on strength, Tel-el-Kebir, 15 March 1916. Transferred to 57th Bn and taken on strength, Ferry Post, 26 April 1916.

Embarked Alexandria on HT 'Kalyan' and proceeded to join British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 24 June 1916.

Admitted to Hospital, 21 September 1916; discharged to unit, 23 September 1916. Wounded in action, France, 25 March 1917; admitted to 45th Casualty Clearing Station, 26 March 1917 (shrapnel wound, left buttock); to 27th Ambulance Train, 27 March 1917; admitted to 11th Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 28 March 1917. Embarked Harve on HS 'Cloucester Castle', 30 March 1917; admitted to Royal Victoria Hospital, Netby, 31 March 1917 (septic wound, buttock); discharged on furlough, 29 May 1917.
