Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 1 December 1915, and transferred to HS 'Dongola' (typhoid); to 15th General Hospital, Alexandria, 4 December 1915 (enteric); admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 21 December 1915. Adjudged by the Medical Board as being incapacitated for military duty for three months, Cairo, 2 January 1916. Embarked Suez on HS 'Ulysses' and proceeded to Australia, 3 January 1916.

Embarked Brisbane on 'Itonius', 9 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 18 October 1916; marched into 7th Training Bn from Hurdcott, 1 November 1916.

Admitted to 6th Auxiliary Hospital, 13 December 1916 (concussion); transferred to Fargo Military Hospital, 25 January 1917; discharged on furlough, 27 February 1917. Marched into No 4 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 15 March 1917; moved out to 69th Bn, Wareham, 17 March 1917. Transferred to 25th Bn, 23 March 1917; marched into No 4 Command Depot, 31 March 1917.
