Proceeded overseas to France, 28 December 1916; taken on strength, 47th Bn, 6 February 1917. Wounded in action, 11 April 1917 (gun shot wound, right buttock & head); admitted to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 13 April 1917; discharged to No. 2 Convalescent Depot, 7 May 1917; to 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, 29 May 1917; rejoined unit, Belgium, 9 June 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 19 June 1917; Temporary Corporal, 19 June 1917. Wounded in action, 12 October 1917 (contusion, back); transferred to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 14 October 1917; reverted to previous rank of Lance Corporal on being wounded; rejoined unit, 26 November 1917. On leave, 23 December 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 10 January 1918. Reverted to Private at own request, 4 March 1918. Transferred to 48th Bn, 26 May 1918.
