Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous allantry and devotion to duty. In command of a platoon during an attack he rushed two enemy machine guns, killing or capturing the crews, and using the guns in defence of his new position. In a counter attack by the enemy, he led his men in hand-to-hand fighting, and repulsed the attack. Later, the same evening, he led his platoon against an enemy strong point in "No Man's Land" killing many of the enemy, and capturing several prisoners and three machine guns. He did splendid service, and set a magnificent example of courage and devotion to duty to his men.'
