Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. he led his company from the reserve line to the firing line through heavy artillery barrage, where he rendered the greatest assistance in clearing up the situation. Two hours after entering the trench he had captured 50 yards of the new enemy trench and ten prisoners. Throughout he showed a fine example of leadership and courage under heavy fire.'
