Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations East of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on 9th August 1918. This N.C.O. was attached to 58th Battalion headquarters for duty as Despatch Rider and Mounted Scout. He carried out very important reconnaissances of the enemy's positions and brought back very valuable information which enabled dispositions to be made to get the infantry line forward. At times when signal communications failed he galloped forward to companies in the front line of the attack carrying messages from Battalion headquarters. His work throughout the operations was of the highest standard and is worthy of special recognition.'
