Military Medal 'On 8th August, 1918, during the attack east of HAMEL, Private COSTELLO was a Headquarters Runner. When telephone communications were cut owing to heavy enemy shell fire he made many trips to the front line and on two occasions had to go through heavy enemy shell fire. By his courage and absolute disregard for his own personal safety he rendered valuable services to his Battalion at a time when they were most needed. He set an excellent example of gallantry to his comrades.'
