'On the 29th September during the operations, resulting in the capture of the HINDENBURG Line opposite BELLICOURT, while advancing over a hill, the battery came into full view of the enemy, and under a heavy hostile fire from 77mm guns and 105 cm Hows., casualties being suffered. It was impossible to move some of the vehicles, because a part of the road was blocked by other transport, consequently to save the animals some teams were ordered to be unhooked and sent away. Under a heavy and accurate fire this W.O. directed the withdrawal of the teams, and immediately returned and carried out a N.C.O. who had been wounded. He later collected some teams and lead them back; with these he succeeded in withdrawing the vehicles and bringing them into action with the remainder of the Battery. In doing this he acted promptly and very cool. It was largely due to his fine example and presence of mind under fire, that the vehicles were saved and that the casualties to personnel and animals were minimised. Throughout the day and night when ammunition was required he was untiring in his efforts in maintaining the supply to his Battery. This W.O. is deserving of special recognition.'

Meritorious Service Medal

'During the period February to September 1918 this Warrant Officer has performed his duties continuously in a most thorough and conscientious manner. By the able way in which he has assisted in the organisation and controlling of the Wagon Lines, he has rendered very valuable assistance to the officers in charge. He has frequently led the ammunition wagons of his Battery to the Guns, on many occasions coming under heavy shell fire, casualties being inflicted on his Column. On these occasions he has shown great coolness and ability; thus he has succeeded in preventing casualties and in supplying ammunition to his Battery during the recent operations at times when it has been difficult to maintain supplies.'
