Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 1st March, 1917. He directed and controlled the fire of two Lewis Guns which were in the open and exposed to enemy machine gun and shell fire, and inflicted many casualties. On 2nd March, 1917, after bombing party had been driven down LAYTON LANE, Corporal COWCHER held a barricade with his Lewis Gun while bombs were being freely exchanged.'
