Medals |
Military Medal 'During the operations at POLYGON WOOD east of YPRES on 19/23rd September, 1917, Sgt. COWLEY showed great courage and devotion to duty. His platoon had become disorganised owing to having been caught in an enemy barrage. With utter disregard as to his personal safety he moved up and down among his men and reorganised them and by his cheerfulness and example greatly steadied them. Later during the advance he led his platoon against a section of trench and captured two Machine Guns and killed a large number of the enemy.'
