'For great personal courage and dash in the operations of 3rd October, 1918 near JONCOURT, North of ST. QUENTIN. When his company was mopping up its objective a machine gun opened from a distance of about 50 yards. Lance Corporal COX rushed across the open and attacked it, killing three of the crew with his rifle and capturing the remainder.'
