'At BULLECOURT on the morning of 11th April 1917 Private COYTE was No. 1 of the Lewis gun Team and when ordered to retire was severely wounded while carrying his gun. He crawled for about 200 yards still carrying his gun, becoming exhausted, trained it on the advancing enemy until his supply of ammunition was expended. He was subsequently found lying beside his gun in a state of collapse and was brought in by stretcher bearers.'
