Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He conducted 52 mule loads of grenades, ammunition, and water to the forward area under great difficulties, being frequently under shell fire. He showed great initiative in overcoming such obstacles as a river, trenches, and wire. He successfully delivered his load and returned without any casualties, and he has been consistently cool and resourceful whilst engaged in pack work.'
