Military Medal 'Conspicuous gallantry and daring during the attack on 9th October, 1917, at PASSCHENDAELE RIDGE. He set a splendid example of courage and initiative to his platoon and when his Lewis gun team was blown out he rescue the gun, dashed forward with it and brought it into action against an enemy machine gun position thus enabling his platoon to advance and surround the obstacle. He was afterwards severely wounded.'
