Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer moved forward with the attacking infantry to search for and remove land mines and traps from main roads. Assisted by one man he removed twenty seven mines, and the fact that there was only one accident due to land mines on the main roads proved the thoroughness with which he carried out his task, and thereby enabled guns and limbers to get forward safely and quickly.'
