Wounded in action, 20 July 1916 (gun shot wound, right shoulder); admitted to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 21 July 1916; transferred to England, 22 July 1916, and admitted same day to 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston (wound: severe); to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 8 September 1916; discharged on furlough, 14 September 1916, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 28 September 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ajana', 17 October 1916; disembarked Melbourne, 8 December 1916; discharged, Brisbane, 17 January 1917.
