Embarked Alexandria, Egypt, 28 May 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 7 June 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 10 September 1916; taken on strength, 17th Bn, 24 September 1916.

Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 10 November 1916; transferred to 12th General Hospital, 12 November 1916 (sore feet); discharged to 2nd Convalescent Depot, 20 November 1916; marched into 2nd Australian Division Base Depot, Etaples, 27 November 1916. Admitted to 26th General Hospital, 6 January 1917 (cold); transferred to England, 18 January 1917, and admitted to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Brighton, 19 January 1917 (trench feet); discharged on furlough, 12 February 1917, to report to Wareham. Marched into No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 14 February 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 14 May 1917; rejoined Bn, 29 May 1917.

Taken on strength, 5th Machine Gun Company, 9 March 1918.

Admitted to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, 22 March 1918; transferred to 51st General Hospital, 2 April 1918; to 6th Convalescent Depot, 21 April 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 31 days. Transferred to 51st General Hospital, 29 May 1918 (mercurial abscess, buttock); to 6th Convalescent Depot, 12 June 1918; discharged to Employment Base Depot, 25 August 1918; rejoined 2nd Machine Gun Bn, 15 September 1918.

On leave to United Kingdom, 21 January 1919. Admitted to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 4 February 1919, whilst on leave; discharged from hospital, 5 March 1919, and granted leave, to report to No 1 Command Depot. Marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 5 March 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Shropshire', 1 April 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 16 May 1919, for onward travel to Sydney; discharged (medically unfit), 1 July 1919.
