'During the operations South of PERONNE on the 29th August 1918, Private CRIDDLE carried despatches to and from his Company under very heavy enemy machine gun and rifle fire. Owing principally to the speedy and gallant manner in which he moved about, a constant communication was maintained between his Company Commander and Battalion Headquarters throughout. In the advance, he was amongst the first few to reach the final objective. During the operations on 2nd September East of MONT ST. QUENTIN, near PERONNE, he again rendered most valuable services in maintaining communication with Headquarters despite a very heavy artillery and machine gun barrage by the enemy. He set a fine example of courage and devotion to duty, to his comrades.'
