Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This N.C.O. has acted in the capacity of Signal Sergeant for the past 16 months, and during that time has rendered excellent service. During the attack on MONT ST. QUENTIN on 3rd September, 1918, when signal communication was most difficult, Sergeant CROSS accompanied the first wave carrying wire and a telephone, and by his efforts, reports which were most important, were sent back to Headquarters immediately the objective was gained. At BEAUREVOIR on 3rd October, 1918, after capturing objective, one company was out of touch, and Sergeant CROSS at great personal risk laid his lines through a gulley which was being subjected to heavy artillery and machine gun fire from the enemy. By his efforts communication was obtained and maintained, and a most difficult situation cleared up. He has set a fine example by his continued pluck and daring, to all associated with him, and has at all times rendered most valuable service.'
