War service: Western Front

Enlisted, Dubbo, 24 August 1916, and allotted to 7th Reinforcements, 45th Bn, Barrow Camp, Kiama, 27 August 1916, with regimental no. 2858. Admitted to hospital, Kiama, 14-20 September 1916 (non-venereal disease).

Embarked from Sydney, 31 October 1917, with regimental no. 7440; disembarked Devonport, 26 December 1917, and marched in to 1st Training Bn, Sutton Veny.

Taken on strength, 4th Bn, 25 April 1918. Wounded in action, 15 June 1918 (gun shot wound, face). Invalided to England and admitted to Pavilion General Hospital, Brighton, 22 June 1918. Transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital (fractured jaw), 8 July 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 30 October 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Somali', 10 December 1918; disembarked Sydney, 6 March 1919.
