Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during attack on enemy positions EAST of JEANCOURT on 18th September 1918. On his Platoon Commander becoming a casualty on the jumping off tape he took charge of the platoon and handled it skilfully throughout the advance. At one stage when the enemy offered stubborn resistance he rushed his platoon to a flank, overcame the opposition which would have proved critical and would have caused severe casualties to his Company. By his good leadership and timely assistance his Company was undoubtedly saved man lives.'
