'At Glencorse Wood during he period 25th/26th September, Sergeant Arland showed great courage in the organisation of carrying parties under extremely heavy shell fire. Throughout the day of the 26th he did very valuable work in getting supplies of ammunition and water forward to the front line and by his example of coolness and devotion to duty, kept the men together under very trying circumstances and later retired from he fight severely wounded.'
