Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli Campaign), 2 March 1915.

Wounded in action, hit by shrapnel while carrying stretcher with patient back to the beach; projectile went through army, fracturing ulna, 13 May 1915 (compound fracture, ulna [elbow bone]).

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Ballarat', 5 July 1915; disembarked Melbourne, 6 August 1915; discharged (medically unfit), Perth, 11 April 1916.

War service: 1 year 238 days (of which 277 days were abroad)
