Other details

War service: Private Darcy was on board the 'Ballarat' when it was torpedoed on the way to England. The men were rescued in small life-boats. Taken on Strength of 8th Battalion, France, 1 November 1917. Admitted to hospital with scarlet fever, 27 February 1918; transferred to England 12 April 1918. Pte Darcy was discharged from hospital on 25 May 1918.

Charged with playing "Two Up" on 4 August 1918, he was awarded 5 days Field Punishment No.2. On 7 August 1918, he was re-admitted to hospital, but was discharged 3 days later, and sent to join the training brigade before being transferred to Machine Gun Details on 28 September 1918.

Taken on strength of 1st Machine Gun Battalion, France, 12 December 1918.

Proceeded to England from France on 17 April 1919. He left England for his return to Australia per H.T. "Port Darwin" on 12 June 1919, disembarking at Melbourne on 27 July 1919. He was discharged from the AIF at Melbourne as Medically Unfit (Disability: Post Scarlet Fever Debility).

Also served on the Second World War in Australia, joined the army on 10 February 1941, age 49.
