Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations near BRAY on 22nd/23rd August, 1918. As a Lewis gunner, Private DARRINGTON did most excellent work. During the advance he gave timely and accurate covering fire and allowed his Company to advance. He engaged enemy machine guns which were maintaining a heavy fire on our troops and inflicted casualties on their crews and neutralised their fire. He himself rushed a dugout, and captured 10 prisoners. On reaching the final objective, he took his gun forward of our line and inflicted severe casualties on the enemy, especially during his counter attacks. Throughout, Private DARRINGTON made excellent use of his gun. His personal courage, tireless energy, and determination were of the highest order.'
