War service: Western Front Embarked Fremantle on HMAT 'Berrima', 23 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 16 February 1917; marched into Pioneer Training Bn, Larkhill, 18 February 1917. Proceeded to France through Southampton, 14 June 1917; marched into 5th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Le Havre, 15 June 1917; marched out to 5th Pioneer Bn, 22 June 1917, and taken on strength, 1 July 1917. Proceeded to United Kingdom on leave, 15 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 4 April 1918. Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, 10 September 1918, and transferred to 41st Casualty Clearing Station (cellulitis, right knee); transferred to Ambulance Train No 22, 15 September 1918; admitted to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 16 September 1918. Embarked Havre on HS 'Essequibo' and proceeded to England, 17 September 1918; admitted to War Hospital, Exeter, 18 September 1917; discharged on furlough, 7 November 1918.
