Bar to Military Medal

'During the attack on the afternoon of the 18th September, 1918, West of BELENGLISE. After his platoon Officer had become a casualty this N.C.O. took charge of his platoon and led it forward over very exposed ground under very heavy machine gun fire for over 1,000 yards right up to the enemy wire. He handled his platoon with great skill and determination, and set an inspiring example to those under him. He led his men at a strong enemy machine gun position and although prevented from reaching his objective owing to wire was responsible for casualties. During the whole operation this N.C.O. set a splendid example to his men, showed great personal bravery, and daring and excellent qualities as a leader.'
