'On the 18th September, 1918, during the advance near LE VERGUIER, this N.C.O. was in charge of a reconnaissance party which accompanied the attacking Infantry. His duties included the search for, and examination of, enemy land and anti-tank mines, booby traps, and mines in dugouts, also water supply. Owing to the urgency of the work the search had to be carried out in spite of heavy shell fire. Corporal DAVIES displayed great energy and fearlessness in pushing the work over the whole area allotted him, and through his keen attention to duty and cool handling of his men, he was able to complete the reconnaissance with despatch and success, thus supplying, early in the operation information of great value.'
