Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For courage and initiative during the attack on Lihons, 11 August, 1918. This non-commissioned officer did splendid work in clearing out parties of the enemy. When his company was checked by machine gun fire he took two bombers forward and stalked five machine guns, putting them all out of action, and thus allowing the advance to continue.'
