'At NONNE BOSSCHEN near WESTHOEK on night of 30th September and 1st October, 1917, for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man went out under heavy artillery fire and collected a number of wounded of the 10th Battalion 3rd Brigade A.I.F. who were hit while carrying out relief. He showed great coolness and absolute disregard for his personal safety.'
