Joined 20th Bn at Gallipoli, 8 October 1915. Admitted to hospital, Gallipoli, 17 October 1915; returned to duty, 23 October 1915. Disembarked Alexandria (general Gallipoli evacuation), 7 January 1916. Transferred to 2nd Pioneer Bn as Captain, 14 March 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 26 March 1916.

Wounded in action, 13 September 1916 (synovitis, left knee). Transferred to England, 16 September 1916, and admitted to 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester, 17 September 1916; discharged, 6 November 1916.
