Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty During the battalion's tour of duty in the line, this N.C.O. obtained much useful and accurate information by daring patrol work. He also took charge of a bombing party, and drove the enemy from a troublesome post near our line..
Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 15 Date: Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operation near JEANCOURT ON 18th September, 1918. At one stage of the advance this N.C.O. single handed rushed a machine gun which was firing on the advancing troops - he bayoneted two of the crew and captured the remainder. Later, when a platoon was temporarily hung up he collected two men and rushed the enemy from a flank capturing the garrison of 10 men. His daring leadership was most inspiring to his Company.'
