Taken on strength, 5th Light Horse Regiment, Gallipoli, 14 November 1915.

Admitted to hospital, Gallipoli, 30 November 1915 (rheumatism; medical report, 24 September 1919, states 'Was evacuated from Gallipoli in 1915 after being blown up. Patient says he has been nervous and tremlus ever since being evacuated from Gallipoli'); transferred by HS 'Glenart Castle' to Alexandria, 11 December 1915, and admitted to No. 3 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis. Rejoined unit, Maadi, Egypt, 11 January 1916.

Transferred to 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance, 25 January 1916. Found guilty of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline: awarded 3 extra picquets, 31 March 1916.

Attached to 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance as temporary Driver, 27 April 1916; rejoined 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance, 13 May 1916. Admitted to 31st General Hospital, Port Said, 17 September 1916 (tonsillitis); discharged to unit, 6 October 1916.

Attached for duty to 67 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps, 21 October 1917; rejoined 2nd Field Ambulance, 14 December 1917.

Transferred to 7th Dental Unit, 11 July 1918. Appointed Acting Sergeant, 14 February 1919; promoted temporary Staff Sergeant, 1 May 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Delta', 2 August 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 3 September 1919; discharged, 8 December 1919.
