Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Battle of YPRES (Phase 5) 12th October 1917. After all the Officers of his Company had been killed or wounded, he, with great dash and initiative led his Company forward to reinforce the night flank of the Battalion detailed to capture the second objective. This flank was having considerable difficulty owing to enfilade Machine Gun fire. When the new line had to be dug he reorganised his Company and set a fine example by his courage and resourcefulness.'
