Admitted to No 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, Tel el Kebir, 22 July 1916 (gastritis); discharged, 25 July 1916, and rejoined unit the same day. Promoted Sergeant, 3 August 1916. Promoted Warrant Officer Class I, 2 January 1917. Marched into Moascar Canteens, 18 January 1917.
