Military Medal 'Is brought under notice for gallantry and conduct of the highest order during the operations near ZONNEBEKE, on the 26th September, 1917. On the morning of the attack, this N.C.O. who belongs to the Headquarters Signallers, laid lines forward from the Battalion Headquarters to the Companies on the Red Line, and had communication established and complete within an hour of the taking of the line. The whole of his work was done under very heavy machine gun fire, but he, with splendid courage, stuck to his job. Later in the day when enemy artillery fire became heavy, and lines were constantly being cut, this N.C.O. worked continuously on repairs, and as the result of his work at no time was Battalion Headquarters without lines for many minutes, by having telephone communications with the Red Line, messages were got back from the Blue Line and the most advanced posts, within a few minutes of despatch, and forward to Brigade Headquarters when necessary. This N.C.O.'s work during the whole of the period was in keeping with that on the morning of the attack, and his fearless and cheerful example meant much to those working with him. He is recommended for very high distinction.'
