Enlisted, 18th Bn, 6th Reinforcement, 15 May 1915. Discharged, 26 October 1915 (service: 135 days), at wife's request. Wife, Edith Eleanor DIXON, wrote to Infantry Depot, Liverpool, 21 October 1915: 'I beg to request that you will be good enough to discharge my husband, Acting Sergeant, H.G. Dixon ... as I have a family of five young children, dependant upon him, which I think in itself a sufficient reason for his discharge. However, I have no objection to his serving for the purpose of Home Defence.' War service: Western Front Embarked from Sydney, 30 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 10 January 1917. Marched in to 6th Training Bn, Larkhill, 11 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 March 1917; taken on strength, 23rd Bn, 1 April 1917. Wounded in action, France, 3 May 1917 (shell shock), and admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station, 5 May 1917; to No. 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital, Doullens, 19 May 1917; to 26th General Hospital, Etaples, 2 June 1917; to No. 3 Canadian Hospital, Doullens, 24 May 1916; discharged to 2nd Australian Division Base, Havre, 4 June 1917; to England - disembarked Southampton, 10 July 1917; marched in to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 10 July 1917.
