'On September 20th near WESTHOEK this N.C.O. did most excellent work during the whole operation. During some heavy shelling he was wounded in two places but remained on duty until the situation was cleared, continuing to command his detached post. He did not leave until ordered to the rear. His example was one displaying great courage and soldierly spirit.'
