'During 3rd and 4th September, 1916, near Mouquet Farm, this man carried several important messages between 49th Battalion front line, quarry, 52nd Battalion front line, and 50th Battalion H.Q. Most of these tasks were carried out under heavy shell-fire. He worked rapidly over these long distances, never stopping to take cover, no matter how severe the enemy's fire. He further did most useful work guiding supports to the front line when reinforcements were required.'
