Military Medal 'On the evening of 26th September, 1917, No. 1694 Driver DOHERTY G.R., showed coolness and particular devotion to duty when in charge of Lorry No. 11730. The enemy had set fire to a salvage dump near BIRR CROSS ROADS, and also partly blown up the Road in the vicinity, thus causing a block in the traffic coming from the Line. Driver DOHERTY left his lorry in charge of his 2nd Driver and a look out man, and with the assistance of a Sergeant put the fire out. he then went ahead and helped to fill in the hole in the road, thus enabling traffic to proceed in both directions. During this time the enemy were continuously shelling the roads mentioned, and prompt actions of DOHERTY undoubtedly helped materially in clearing what may have very quickly become a serious block in the traffic.'
